1 Samuel 14:6
Jonathan said to the young man who carried his armor, “Come, let us go over to the garrison of these uncircumcised. It may be that the LORD will work for us, for nothing can hinder the LORD from saving by many or by few.”
The Lord is in the heavens, and He does whatever He pleases. The Lord is perfect in all His ways and keeps nothing from us that is for our good.
In these two truths we must hold fast. For we see that Jonathan neither knew what the Lord would do nor how He would do it, but He knew that nothing could stop the plans and the will of God. For what is impossible with man is possible with God.
Many times we go to the Lord and share with Him the desired outcome we choose rather than going to the Lord to know God and His will. We look to our desired outcomes and our own will rather than looking to the Lord.
In this, our focus becomes the blessing rather than the Giver of the blessing. We turn the blessing into an idol, and by doing so, either diminish the calling of God based upon our perceived ability, or we seek a desire apart from God because we see the desire as greater than God.
Psalm 115:3, Psalm 84:11, Luke 18:27
Father, who is like You in the heavens? Who is all powerful, all mighty, all glorious? There is none like You! Yet, I so easily am overwhelmed by circumstances, probabilities, and perceptions. I idolize the things of this world rather than looking to You. Forgive me! Help me to walk in accordance with Your will. Lead me on level ground, that I may know You and make You known. In Christ’s name. Amen
